The reason why 1940 and forwards holsters with the flap riveted instead of sewn is because earlier holsters were made of high quality leather that resist the action of open and cose the flap, but when German started to produce the holsters with Presstoff, (ERSATZ leather, I love that word :), the flap stitching quickly got out of place due to the hardness of the Presstoff, so they made them with rivets, that´s the history. So, (again), to find a 1941 dated holster still with the sewn flap in place... it is very rare.
