German Heer M40 Helmet Single Decal EF66 Untouched One And Battle Damaged?
Interesting helmet bought by me in a show at the South of France from an Italian dealer. Obviously a smooth feldgrau paint in origin, it was repainted with the new textured paint and a new decal added. But the curious thing is how it get his current shape, on the left side where the decal is it has a big hit, but only damaged the new textured paint and not the smooth one. On top it has different scratches where you can see the original smooth paint too. The liner is dated 1940 and made by the B. & C. Berlin factory and it is original to the helmet. The low 4 digits serial number places this helmet at the begining of 1940 and makes it a rare one from the Emaillierwerke-Fulda factory. Maybe it was a proof test helmet? Judge by yourself, but this damage is not a normal damage made by the hit of a bullet or schrapnel. I think it is a very interesting helmet for a helmet collection.
