To me as an Inert Ordnance Collector, this item is one of the Top Shelf items you can have in your collection. Less than 30000, (I never saw a serial number over 26000), units were made from 1943 to 1945. Germans developed this long delay time fuze, (With a delay from one hour to 21 days), because they were starting to retreat from many conquered territories... Imagine a Soviet Headquarters people taking the "Old Wehrmacht Headquarters" building for do the same, (very often), and after a search for booby traps installing there all the stuff..... Ok, then 10 days later the building with everything inside blowed up in the air..... That was the J-Feder 504. There exists a Kriegsmarine version made from Bakelite, which is even harder to find than this one, (always talking in untouched condition).
When you find a boxed Feder, they have always the same problems:
-Missing something, often the charges and/or the booklet used for check the delay of the fuze.
-When complete, 99% of the times is a mismatched set, so a put together one with a booklet from other, or a box from other, etc.
You see here an UNTOUCHED example, and as a curiosity made in two colours with two colours charges that were made from same material and colour of the fuze body. I have observed two different colours only with the bodys, brown, (darker or clearer) and brass/green. Normally until serial number 20000 always brown finished, later you can find both colours and up 25000 brass/green finished. No idea why, but it is what I have observed in my 20 years of collecting.
Note the small charges of this set have been emptied, so they are totally safe now.
