German Luftwaffe Helmet Complete Liner Metall-Lederverarbeitung W. Z. Bln.-Chburg 5. 1940 In Size 66/59, Reinforced Variation, Excellent Condition.
Why Luftwaffe? Because the small blue paint drops on the leather and in the aluminium, look photos. Early M31 liner reinforced in 1940, when this was done the two square aluminium buckles for the chinstraps used on the early liners were also replaced for the round corners model used until the end of the war, but on this liner, one of the original early square buckles was left, why? No idea. But it is a nice detail also. I think everybody already know it, but, just in case: The reinforcement was introduced because the early M31 liners were just a thin aluminium band and were easily breakable, so this practice was started in 1937 for fix that mistake. The new liner bands introduced in 1940 were stronger because they were made from zink, so no reinforcement was needed.
The liner comes complete with all the small inner aluminium pins, all the leather reinforcing washers for the drawnstring and the drawnstring itself. All fingers in place and not torn. It is a worn liner, so it will match with many Luftwaffe M35 and M40 helmets.
