German Wehrmacht Winkelmesser 35 W.M.35 (1/6400) Artillery Field Clinometer Complete In Sand Box.
The W.M.35 Clinometer was used to raise the barrels of heavy artillery guns, (commonly, the 10.5 cm Field Howitzer), to the right inclination to hit the target. When used for ranging it would be set to the required quadrant elevation then fastened to the gun muzzle which was then raised. The setting of the elevation or the reading of the inclination was very accurate as this was a very long scale round the moving barrel. This type originated in WW1 and were used right up until the end of WW2. Totally steel made this late war example by bvu, (Kuhlmann, Franz, Werkstaetten fuer Praezisionsnmechanik u. Maschinenbau, Hauptwerke Wilhelmshaven), comes complete and untouched with the always missing key. It is 100% functional. Case stencils and paint original and in such a very nice condition, I say this because I have seen many restored boxes in sand colour with new stencils due to the fact that cases are always found in very bad condition. Overall a nice and very displayable item. And really heavy.
