This box got a coat of lacquer sometime post war, but there is nearly all the original paint under, you will not see rust, you will see the Feldgrau colour. German Wehrmacht Stielhandgranaten Nebelhandgranate 39 Metal Case Smoke Stickgrenades M39 W L 1940, Wonderful Example.

Hard to find early case in its original untouched condition. I mean that this case left the factory as you see it now, 83 years later. No more stencils were applied to boxes after 1940, and normally early boxes got new paint job when sent back to depos for refilling. The only flaw I see is the surface rust at the bottom, see photo 7. Overall a super case not easy to find.
